BEA has a diverse customer base whose servers run on a range of platforms, including AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Solaris, Tru64, and Windows NT & 2000. They need transparent, seamless, multiplatform deployment. Prior to standardizing on InstallAnywhere, BEA was using a single-platform installer for Windows and distributing a simple .jar file on UNIX. This was costly, inefficient, and took up valuable developer time. “We needed a deployment solution provider that shared our vision of anytime, anywhere computing,” said John Kiger, director of product marketing for the E-Commerce Server Division at BEA. “No other solution provided the cross-platform support and flexibility BEA required.” Console and silent installation functionality were also important for BEA. “Our customers need to be able to deploy BEA products with or without a GUI, through Telnet, or silently.”
